Frequently Asked Questions

What is Art Clay Silver?

Art Clay Silver is a clay made up of silver particles in an organic binder. The wet, unfired clay is a bit like Fimo or Plasticine and can be flattened, rolled, textured and shaped by hand. It is then fired in kiln or over a gas flame which cause the organic binders to burn off, leaving you with a piece of 99.95 pure silver.

How is Art Clay different to traditional silversmithing?

Art Clay does not require special skills to produce basic pieces. You don't need to know how to solder or how to use a saw. It can formed with you hands like putty so it's a lot more expressive than working with traditional silver sheet.

How long does it take to learn?

The basics are easily picked up and you could make your first pieces easily on a single day course. You could leave wearing them, which is what appeals to so many people who have attended our workshops.
