Rust Red Dichroic Glass and Sterling Silver Jumper Pin

This rust coloured dichroic glass and sterling silver pin will warm any winter clothing from a wooly hat to a winter coat, but is versatile enough to wear on a summer weight linen jacket or sunhat too! Wrapped in sterling silver wire (which becomes the brooch pin), this rust coloured glass cabochon is a solid colour that will keep its colour no matter which outfit you team it with, flashing more than a hint of sparkle.

As the pin is 1mm in diameter we would recommend that you wear it in heavier clothing than a silk blouse to avoid any visible holes in the fabric on removal. There is a silver pin protector on the point of the brooch, not only to secure the pin to your clothing, but also to protect your fingers! 

Originally created for the aerospace industry, dichroic glass is made by vacuum depositing a special coating onto a glass sheet. The process creates a mirror like finish that reflects a specific color but when the glass is held up to the light, a different color is seen (transmitted) through the glass. Glass artists often refer to dichroic glass as "dichro".

A plate of dichroic glass can be fused with other glass in multiple firings. Due to variations in the firing process, individual results can never be exactly predicted, so each piece of fused dichroic glass is unique.
