Sterling Silver Droplet Etch and Chainmaille Bracelet

This bracelet is a combination of the ancient art of chainmaille and contemporary patterned sheet silver. Inspired by the rain, the sterling silver sheet has been patterned with water droplets of various sizes. The patterned sheet has been cut into 2cm squares which are linked with sections of chainmaille. The bracelet has an integrated loop and toggle clasp.

Please note that each link is soldered closed in the chainmaille pattern.

Acid etching is a tricky process that takes time. A sterling silver sheet is painted with a tar-like substance to prevent acid eating into the surface of the metal. Once this "resist" has dried, the silver is placed into an acid bath. The depth of the etched pattern depends on the strength of the acid bath and the time the metal is left to soak. We only create small sheets of any one design; once it has gone, it's gone!
