Quick links: Silver Clay Workshops | Sterling Silver Workshops

Jo has been running jewellery-making workshops since 2006 and most of the pieces illustrated on the following pages were made by participants under Jo’s guidance and with her encouragement.

To find the right workshop for you, browse the Silver Clay and Sterling Silver options or check the Calendar to see what’s running at a convenient time for you.

“A very enjoyable and rewarding workshop.
So good to come away with something unique
and I am now a jewellery designer!”

A few points about the workshops:

  1. Workshops are all run at the Silver Forge studio on the ground floor of Yew Tree Barn at Low Newton (just off the new A590 at Low Newton, near Cartmel and Newby Bridge)
  2. Workshop numbers are limited to 6 participants unless otherwise stated, and a minimum of two participants will allow a course to run
  3. If you cannot find a date to suit you, please contact Jo – she can often find a mutually convenient date in the diary, especially if you are wanting to try something special or have a group of friends who’d like a workshop together
  4. Where lunch is provided, meals are catered by the Hat Trick Café in Yew Tree Barn, famous for its fish chowders and home-made lemonade.

You’ll see that each workshop is individually priced, based on workshop duration, materials used (eg: sterling silver, glass, silver clay) and the quantities of these that are included in the price. Further materials are available for sale on the day.

Special offer: for group bookings, book 5 places and the sixth is free

Jo aims to make each workshop as much fun, creative and satisfying as possible.  Whether you come on your own, with a friend or as part of a group, you’ll leave with at least one unique piece of jewellery that you have designed and made yourself – and the satisfaction of having learnt new skills too.

In addition to our workshops, Silver Forge also offers:

  1. Firing Service - for many silver clay enthusiasts the cost of a kiln is a barrier to continuing with silver clay as a hobby. Although it is possible to fire small silver clay pieces with a "cook's torch", the best results are obtained through kiln firing. Don't despair - we offer a firing service! It is simple to use: carefully package you dry silver clay piece/s for travel, enclose cheque payment and snailmail your parcel to the studio. We'll fire your piece and send it back to you, still carefully packaged!
  2. Coffee and Fingerprints - one of the best presents we ever gave one of our friend's was her 18 month old's thumbprint preserved in fine silver! And we've recently heard of a couple who exchanged fingerprints to mark their wedding anniversary. Why not pop in for a coffee and make a fingerprint at the same time. Visit Jo at the studio to set the ball rolling, then enjoy a leisurely coffee at the Hat Trick Cafe (they serve delicious food too) or wander through the gallery before collecting your finished silver fingerprint/s from Jo. Items we've made so far using fingerprint designs include: cufflinks, pendants, bracelet charms, earrings and keyrings, and we are sure that that is only the start.
  3. Bridal accessories – make your wedding day even more unique by creating your own jewellery for this special occasion. Bring your bridesmaids too and design beautiful mementos to add to your memories of the big day!
